Vietnam Ministry Suggests Greenhouse Gas Emission Quota Priority to 3 Sectors

The Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) has proposed prioritizing the allocation of greenhouse gas emission quotas for three sectors in the 2025-2026 period, local media reported.

The ministry made the proposal in the draft decree amending and supplementing several articles of the government’s Decree 06/2022/ND-CP on mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the ozone layer.

The three suggested sectors are thermal power, iron and steel, and cement industries. It is expected that about 200 establishments will be allocated quotas in the first phase, accounting for about 45% of the total emissions of establishments that must conduct greenhouse gas inventories.

According to the draft, the MoNRE will allocate quotas to establishments before December 31 every year.
