Vietnam Ministry Supplements Regulations on Greenhouse Gas Emission Quotas

The Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) has supplemented regulations on the roadmap for allocating greenhouse gas emission quotas in the draft decree and draft circular related to greenhouse gas emission reduction and ozone layer protection, local media said.

The ministry noted that it is necessary to strengthen the greenhouse gas inventory to support quota allocation to a number of specific subjects.

Accordingly, thermal power, steel, and cement sectors will have their greenhouse gases inventoried in a new and more detailed form. Around 200 establishments in the three fields are expected to be allocated quotas in the 2025-2026 period.

The MoNRE suggested the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) propose the annual quota allocation for each thermal power plant and iron-steel production facility and the Ministry of Construction (MoC) do the same work for cement production establishments. The MoIT and MoC were asked to send the quota proposals to the MoNRE by October 31.
