Vietnam NA Refutes Misinformation on Binh Thuan’s Ka Pet Reservoir Project

The information about cutting down 600 hectares of forest for the Ka Pet reservoir project development in Vietnam’s central Binh Thuan province is unsubstantiated, said Vice Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for Science, Technology, and Environment Nguyen Phuong Tuan.

Speaking at a meeting on September 12, the official said that some articles had reported false information about the project, which provoked bad public reactions and impacted the images of the NA and the government. He affirmed that this is merely a forest exploitation activity for the project erection instead of a “deforestation activity” as reported by the press.

Mr. Tuan shared that the Committee for Science, Technology, and Environment would continue to inspect the project while proposing the government and the People’s Committee of Binh Thuan province report the project's progress soon.

He also asked the province to rectify the coverage of “deforestation” information and strictly handle disinformation.

Regarding the Ka Pet reservoir project, Head of the People’s Volunteer Committee Duong Thanh Binh said that most Binh Thuan locals supported the project, which is expected to supply water for local livelihood and production.
