Vietnam Oct Hungry Households Fall 11.6% On Month: GSO

Vietnam has reported 14,500 hungry families with 61,000 starving people in October, down 11.6% and 13% from September, respectively, said the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO). The figures represented on-year decreases of 18.1% in the number of hungry households and 22.68% in the number of starving people, the office added. Between January and October, the country has recorded 402,400 hungry households with 1.69 million starving people, respectively down 3.9% and 4.9% from a year earlier. Most of the poor households are in the northern mountainous provinces and central coastal areas that are frequently hit by natural calamities. To deal with the situation, the government and local authorities have provided more than 43,200 tons of food and more than VND24 billion. (GSO Oct)
