Vietnam Official Works with German Partners on Plasma Fractionation Tech

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen has talked with PreviPharma Consulting GmbH and some other German partners about policies and models for plasma donation, as well as plasma fractionation technology, local media reported.

The discussions took place as part of the visit to Germany by Mr. Tuyen on July 26-27 to join the International AIDS Conference 2024.

During these meetings, Mr. Tuyen emphasized the critical need for plasma in Vietnam. He affirmed that domestic production of biologic drugs derived from human blood and plasma is a major goal for the Government and the Ministry of Health to ensure the timely and proactive supply for disease prevention and treatment.

The Vietnamese deputy minister instructed the Legal Department and the Drug Administration of Vietnam to review documents and complete legal procedures related to the supply of raw blood and plasma materials, and to register biologic drugs derived from blood and plasma in accordance with regulations.

He also tasked the Department of Science, Technology and Training with directing and coordinating with Company for Vaccines and Biological Production No.1 (VABIOTECH) to establish a project for cooperation and technology transfer for plasma fractionation, aiming to soon operate a production plant to meet the plasma demand in Vietnam.

Annually, Vietnam receives over 1.5 million units of blood from voluntary donations, with approximately 400,000 liters of surplus plasma after blood component separation from hospitals and hematology centers nationwide.
