Vietnam Plans to Build First Energy-saving Facility Funded by Denmark

Danish experts will support Vietnam in building a facility that will consume as little energy as possible, the first of its kind in the Southeast Asian country, state media reported.Experts from University College of Northern Denmark (UCN) and Kaersgaard & Andersen (KAAI) Company will cooperate with the Energy Conservation Center of Ho Chi Minh City (ECC-HCMC) to build Active House, a model of energy efficiency. This project is within the cooperation agreement between the UCN and ECC-HCMC in a bid to bring Danish technologies in green architecture to Vietnam, whose constructions are often built without attention to energy saving.Vietnam’s economic industrialization is forecast to face energy shortage in the future if there is no policy on environmental sustainability, local experts said, attributing the fear to the government’s indifference to green growth despite the 90-million population country being among the five countries hardest-hit by climate change.Vietnam mostly uses fossil fuel. It has recently poured investment into renewable energy such as solar, wind-to-power and recycled energy. (www.ecc-hcm.gov.vn Nov 6)
