Vietnam PM Calls for Joint Efforts in Dealing with Plastics Waste

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has just issued an open letter calling for joint efforts in the whole nation to deal with problems of plastics waste, state media reported. PM Phuc recalled that many businesses and localities made many initiatives for the trouble, however, those were individual efforts and did not widespread the effect to the whole society. The government leader also stressed that the government is conducting many policies and methods to reduce the negative impacts of plastics waste, with focuses on reduction, reuse, recycle of plastics products, and green growth. Vietnam aims to reduce 65% of plastics bags at supermarkets in 2020. Currently, the issue is problematic as Vietnam consumed about five million tons of plastics in 2015. The country imported 90,839 tons of plastics waste in 2017 and 175,000 tons of plastics waste in the first nine months of 2018, both for purposes of recycling into materials.
