Vietnam PM, Harvard Professor Talk about Fulbright University Vietnam

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on January 10 afternoon held a welcome reception in Hanoi for Professor Thomas Vallely from Harvard University. Speaking at the meeting, PM Phuc affirmed that Vietnam always has a strong demand for tightening cooperation in education with the U.S. as the Southeast Asian country seeks to achieve fast and sustainable growth as well as better manpower. On the topic of the Fulbright University Vietnam (FUV), PM Phuc noted the efforts from both sides in handling the legal paperwork for the school, saying that Vietnam supports the university’s autonomy per international practice. Therefore, he proposed both sides focus on building the university facilities to be of high quality and having the best, world-renowned professors and lecturers. For his part, Professor Vallely said the U.S. government will provide financial support to build FUV, and thus, he hoped the Vietnamese government would grant policy support. The U.S. side is establishing its management mechanism so that the FUV will be the most modern model as well as leading university in the region and the world. Via discussions with Vietnamese leaders at different levels, the U.S. side has resolved many issues and expected the university will soon receive its license for operation. Many FUV programs will focus on startup development, global economic integration, and connection with California-based Silicon Valley and Vietnamese businesspersons, scientists living in the U.S. Professor Vallely added the American public highly values the phone conversation between PM Phuc and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
