Vietnam PM Issues Strategy for Space Sci-Tech Development, Application by 2030

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has issued the strategy for the development and application of space science and technology by 2030, state media reported. Specifically, Vietnam aims to own technologies for designing, producing, and integrating optical sensors and radars in earth observation satellites; and assembling, integrating, and examining small satellites with high and very high resolution. Also, the country wants to master technologies for designing and manufacturing terminal devices, earth stations controlling and collecting satellite data along with transponders for telecommunication satellites, and develop Vietnam’s positioning and navigation capacity as well as reduce its dependence on existing global positioning systems. Per this strategy, by 2030, Vietnam will train about 300 experts and 3,000 engineers in space science and technology, upgrade about ten specialized laboratories, and develop strong research groups on space science, geophysics, astrophysics, and their application.
