Vietnam: Professional Dogs Used in Bomb, Mine Clearance

Professional ordinance clearing dogs has been used for the very first time in a pilot mine and bomb clearance program, the Renew Quang Tri Project implemented by the Norwegian People's Aid and sponsored by the Swedish International Development and Cooperation Agency (SIDA), the project representatives said on July 16th. Accordingly, on July 3rd, Renew Quang Tri established a clearance team which included 3 technicians, 2 dogs and 3 Cambodian experts working in Xuan My village, Cam Tuyen commune, Cam Lo district. Ten days after establishment, the team had cleared 20,435 square meters of land, discovering 35 bombs and 15 other explosives. The pilot program will last 9 months. (http://dangcongsan.vn/ July 17)
