Vietnam to Provide Free Rotavirus Vaccine to Children from 2024: Official
Children in Vietnam are set to receive free vaccination against Rotavirus, a leading cause of diarrhea, from 2024, making it the 11th vaccine to be introduced in the country’s expanded immunization program, said Associate Professor Dr. Duong Thi Hong, deputy director of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.
The Rotavirus vaccine will be implemented initially in 33 provinces and municipalities, Dr. Hong noted, adding that the program aims to expand its coverage nationwide to ensure that all children under one year old receive the vaccine by 2025.
She announced that 20% of the Rotavirus vaccine used in the expanded immunization program will be provided by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), with the remaining 80% sourced domestically.
Under the government Resolution 104/NQ-CP dated August 15, 2022, which outlines the roadmap for increasing the number of vaccines in the expanded immunization program from 2021 to 2030, additional vaccines to be included in the program will be the Pertussis vaccine in 2025, followed by the HPV vaccine in 2026, and the seasonal influenza vaccine in 2030.
