Vietnam to Provide Free Rotavirus Vaccine for Children at 33 Localities in Q2/2024

Vietnam will launch free rotavirus vaccine administration for children at 33 localities nationwide from the second quarter (Q2) of 2024 and expand to the whole country by the end of 2025, informed Ms. Duong Thi Hong, Deputy Director of the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.

The official said that the rotavirus vaccine is the 11th one included in Vietnam’s Expanded Program on Immunization, with 20% of the vaccine source supported by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) and the remaining 80% purchased from domestically produced vaccines.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) will launch a training course on rotavirus vaccine for medical staff in Q1/2024, she said.

This year, the ministry conducted the rotavirus vaccination administration at 12 localities, Ms. Hong said. Currently, the rotavirus vaccine has a price ranging from VND400,000-VND800,000 ($16.6-$33.3) per dose, depending on the country of manufacture.
