Vietnam Ranked Sixth in Global Climate Risk Index 2020: Germanwatch

Vietnam is ranked sixth among the countries most heavily impacted by extreme weather phenomena in the past decade, according to the Global Climate Risk Index (CRI) 2020 released by Germanwatch, a German environmental organization. Germanwatch announced the report at the 25th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Spain on December 2-13. According to the report, Vietnam has worsened from the ninth spot in the CRI 2019, which reviewed 1998-2017. Over the last two decades, Vietnam recorded 226 extreme weather events, which killed an average of 285.8 people and caused economic losses of $2 billion per year, the report said. Puerto Rico remains at the top of the list, while Myanmar and Haiti make up the top three. They are followed by the Philippines, Pakistan, and Vietnam.
