Vietnam is estimated to have seen 1,100 natural disasters in 2023 that caused 166 deaths and missing, according to the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

The abnormal weather conditions have caused an economic loss of nearly VND8.24 trillion ($343.17 million).

This year, Vietnam has seen fewer storms than ever due to being affected by the El Nino phenomenon, with five storms and three tropical depressions.

The country has also witnessed intense heat, with some temperatures reaching 44.2 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, heavy rain has occurred in the central region, especially in Thua Thien-Hue, Danang City, and Quang Nam.

About 35 localities have been affected by flash floods and landslides in the year to date, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting.
