Vietnam Records 482 Deaths due to Natural Disasters, Fires, Explosions in 2020

Vietnam is estimated to have recorded 482 deaths and missing, and 1,233 injuries due to natural disasters and fires, explosions in 2020, according to the latest data from the General Statistics Office (GSO). In the year, natural disasters are likely to have caused 379 deaths and missing, injured 1,060 others, and damaged 403,900 hectares of paddy and veggies, over four million of cattle and poultry, and over 599,200 houses. The total economic loss is estimated at VND39.1 trillion ($1.7 billion). Meanwhile, fires and explosions are estimated to have claimed the lives of 103 people, injured 173 others, and caused the country an economic loss of VND614.2 billion. In 2020, relevant agencies have detected 14,332 environmental violations, of which handling 12,820 cases with a total fine of VND176.8 billion. (GSO, gso)
