Vietnam Records One 25-Year-Old Zika Case in Danang after Four Years: MoH

Vietnam has recorded a 25-year-old male case of Zika virus infection in the central city of Danang, since the country first identified the disease in the central province of Khanh Hoa in March 2016, the Ministry of Health (MoH) announced. Vietnam has so far confirmed 265 cases of Zika infection, mainly in the southern, central, and Central Highlands regions, the MoH added. Zika virus disease is caused by a virus transmitted primarily by Aedes mosquitoes, which bite during the day. Babies, who were infected with Zika before birth, may have smaller brains that might not have developed properly. No vaccine is yet available for the prevention or treatment of Zika virus infection. Meanwhile, the country has so far this year recorded 26,857 dengue fever cases, including three deaths in three provinces, namely Binh Dinh, Binh Phuoc, and Tay Ninh, the health ministry revealed, warning that the number of dengue fever cases tend to rise in recent weeks in the central and southern regions because weather conditions have been suitable for the disease to develop.
