Vietnam Red Cross to Grant Presents for AO Victims during Tet

The Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) on December 15th held a press conference on the movement “Tet for poor people and Agent Orange (AO) victims”, aiming to collect millions of presents to be given to disadvantaged people. According to Tran Thi Hong An, VRC Vice President, the movement was launched by the VRC in 1999 and has collected over VND3 trillion and assisting nearly 14 million poor families and AO victims. During the 2014 lunar New Year alone, the movement collected 1.7 million presents worth VND635 billion with the participation of 25,491 organizations and individuals and 6,408 enterprises. This year, the movement targets to mobilize at least one million Tet presents. As of December 12th, all of 63 provinces and cities issued their plans to carry out the movement and registered to collect over 1.1 million presents. To support the movement, a program on sending messages TET to 1405 to raise VND10,000 each for the movement will be carried out from December 22nd, 2014 to February 21st, 2015. (Dangcongsan.vn Dec 16)
