Vietnam Rescues over 1.1K Wild Animal Species in 2020: ENV

Vietnam rescued 1,132 wild animals in 2020 as 57.1% of the 2,216 violation cases reported by civilians, state media cited the Education for Nature Vietnam (ENV), a Vietnamese non-governmental organization (NGO) on wildlife protection, as saying. In 2020, the NGO recorded a total of 2,907 violations, which doubled its figure in 2019, including 1,956 cases in advertising illegal wildlife trade and 863 others of captivity. The rescued included 436 birds, 362 turtles, and 120 monkeys, among others. Notably, in October last year, seven bears, which are captured in Vietnam’s southern province of Binh Duong, were transferred to a sanctuary in northern Ninh Binh province, bringing the number of saved bears to 32 in 2020. EVN urged relevant agencies to make more efforts in raising the success rate of handling wildlife violations, besides, asking people to not use wildlife products but report unlawful activities.
