Vietnam to Retrain 28,000 Secondary-High School Teachers for New Curriculum

Vietnam’s Ministry of Training and Education (MoET) will retrain 28,000 teachers for secondary education (Secondary schools and high schools) to prepare for new curriculum, said officials at a conference to review 2018-2019 school-year and deploy task for 2019-2020 academic year, in Danang City last week, state media reported. Head of the Secondary Education Department Vu Dinh Chuan listed achievements, including 56.7% of secondary schools (7,573 over 13,348) and 37,04% (1,243 over 3,356) of high schools meeting national standards, the higher popularity of 10-year English language courses, the preparation for new curriculum, the better quality of teachers and management staff, among others. Concluding the event, Deputy Minister Nguyen Huu Do set out five tasks, comprising of (i) implementation of Law on Education 2019, (ii) reorganization of schools and staff, (iii) focus on various aspects of education, (iv) preparation on books and teachers for new curriculum, and (v) new management methods. Mr. Mai Van Trinh, head of the Quality Control Department, under MoET, said that Vietnam will uphold the format of the national high school exam while piloting that exams on computers in suitable areas in 2021-2023.
