Vietnam, Russia Seek to Enhance Educational Cooperation

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc and Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Andrey Vladimirovich Omelchuk have sought to further promote cooperation between the two countries in the education sector, local media reported.

At a meeting in Hanoi on January 16, Mr. Andrey Vladimirovich Omelchuk said that human resource development is the most crucial sector between the two ministries. He added that 3,200 Vietnamese students are studying in Russia in the academic year 2023-2024. Annually, Russia also grants a substantial number of scholarships to Vietnam, aiming to prepare a high-quality workforce for the Vietnamese economy.

Commending Vietnam's successful organization of the 2023 International Russian Language Olympiad, Mr. Omelchuk hoped the annual competition to continue being efficiently organized and expressed Russia’s willingness to provide financial support for the competition.

To foster collaboration, he discussed ongoing cooperation activities between the two ministries, such as the establishment of the Pushkin Center based on the Pushkin Institute, teaching and promoting the Russian language in Vietnam, and sending Russian experts to work in Vietnam.

He affirmed readiness to support Vietnam in implementing collaborative programs to enhance educational relations between the two countries.

Deputy Minister Phuc, for his part, extended gratitude to the Russian government for allocating 1,000 scholarships for Vietnamese citizens studying in Russia in the 2023-2024 school year.

Mr. Phuc hoped the Pushkin Center based on the Pushkin Institute to become a hub for promoting the Russian language, facilitating cultural exchange, and fostering mutual understanding between the two nations.

Furthermore, he suggested the two ministries intensify collaboration in the field of higher education and coordinate the guidance of respective universities for effective cooperation.
