Vietnam Seeks UNODC’s Support in Addictive Drug Prevention, Rehab

Vietnam wishes to receive support from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in addictive drug prevention and rehab as well as human trafficking fight, said Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs Nguyen Van Hoi.

Mr. Hoi made the statement at a meeting with UNODC Deputy Regional Representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific Benedikt Hofmann on July 10.

He hoped that UNODC would assist Vietnam in developing detailed documents combining health with education and share experiences to help the country apply an effective labor therapy model to bring drug addicts and human trafficking victims to society easily.

In reply, Mr. Hofmann pledged to closely cooperate with the Vietnamese side in the addictive drug and human trafficking fights. He shared that the UNODC is planning to expand its health and drug program components in Vietnam to support the country’s response to health and psychosocial issues in vulnerable populations, including children and adolescents affected by narcotics and synthetic stimulants.
