Vietnam Sept State Expenditure for Education Projects Down 3.9% on Month

Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) disbursed an estimated VND49 billion ($2.31 million) worth of state funding for its projects in September, a decrease of 3.92% from August, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said. Disbursement of state fund for education projects was VND438 billion in the first nine months of this year, down 32.9% and fulfilling 62.8% of the full-year target. Economists have recently warned of low disbursement for projects in the education and training sector. Meanwhile foreign direct investment (FDI) in the education sector remains humble. By end-September, Vietnam attracted around 167 FDI projects in the sector with a total pledged capital of $662.89 million. The figure made up only 0.29% of total values of the country’s FDI projects.
