Vietnam Spends $553.02M on Science-Technology Research Works in 2019: MoF

Vietnam allocated VND12.83 trillion ($553.02 million) on science and technology research activities in 2019, up 22% in comparison with 2016, according to the statistics by the Ministry of Finance. The country currently has over 4,000 science-technology organizations, three national high-tech parks, 13 high-tech agricultural parks, eight information technology-majored units and nearly 67,000 researchers. Many areas have been focused for investment such as biotechnology, petrochemicals, materials, energy, automation, nanotechnology, computational technology, and medicine. In related news, a group of four researchers from the Vietnam National University (VNU) has released the University Performance Metrics (UPM) on ranks of science research index from 35 universities across the country. Ton Duc Thang University tops the charts, following by the VNU-Ho Chi Minh City, the VNU, Duy Tan University, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper criticized such spending in central Thanh Hoa province, which consumed VND141 billion on making 19 research.
