Vietnam Spends $886.44M on School Constructions in 2008-2010

Vietnam spent VND18.5 trillion ($886.44 million) on building schools and communal houses for teachers in the 2008-2010 period, said the Ministry of Education and Training. More than 75,932 classrooms and 21,435 communal houses for teachers were built during the time, the Dat Viet newspaper reported Mar 15, citing the ministry. Thousands of unsettled classrooms across the country were also upgraded, it added. Twelve cities and provinces, including Bac Giang, Hoa Binh, Haiphong, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Nam Dinh and Khanh Hoa benefited from the project. The ministry, however, has said due to recent increases in electricity, water and fuel prices, the capital was not enough to fulfill the plan, suggesting the government add more funds. Vietnam will spend VND4.5 trillion ($236.8 million) from g-bonds this year to continue upgrading schools and houses for teachers through 2012. (Dat Viet - National Land Mar 15 p7)
