Vietnam Thua Thien-Hue Promotes Wildlife Conservation

The authorities of Vietnam’s central province of Thua Thien-Hue and U.S Agency for International Development (USAID) held a wildlife protection law dissemination event on July 19 in Hue City to educate wildlife farming facilities about legal regulations and encourage conservation efforts.

The event, organized by the USAID-funded Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC), highlighted the prevalence of commercial and non-commercial wildlife farming in Thua Thien-Hue. The province currently hosts 74 wildlife farming facilities with 1,437 animals.

Mr. Le Ngoc Tuan, director of the Thua Thien-Hue Forest Protection Department, emphasized the region's rich biodiversity, stressing the importance of protecting it from threats like deforestation, climate change, and illegal wildlife trade. He called for increased awareness and action, particularly among households relying on wildlife.

At the event, participants discussed various topics, including wildlife management, legal regulations, the link between wildlife and disease, and guidance on commercial wildlife farming. The event concluded with 50 wildlife farming facility owners signing commitments to adhere to legal regulations and support conservation efforts.
