Vietnam Tuyen Quang Completes Tree Planting Plan

Vietnam’s northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang completed its plan of growing 6 million trees in early June under the Prime Minister’s “planting a billion trees for 2021-2025” project, one year ahead of schedule, according to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Forest Protection Trieu Dang Khoa said from 2024 to 2025, the province aims to plant 2.4 million trees, including 1.6 million in protected, special-use and production forests.

To ensure the project's efficiency, local authorities will continue keeping close tabs on their targets and missions, while promoting communications work to raise public awareness of tree planting, he said, adding the province will work to mobilize legal capital for afforestation as well as study and implement models of the work in urban and rural areas and tourism sites to protect the environment and serve tourism development.

According to the Prime Minister's project, 1 billion trees will be planted nationwide by the end of 2025. Of the figure, 690 million will be in urban and rural areas and 310 million in protected, special and production forests.

The project aims to protect the ecosystem, improve the scenery, respond to climate change, boost socio-economic development, raise people's living standards, and foster the sustainable growth of the country.
