Vietnam University Applies New Entrance Exam

The Hanoi National University (HNU), one of leading universities in Vietnam, has applied a new university entrance exam on computers amid public concerns over the subjective and fairness, state media reported on June 2. The first round of the entrance exam is held between May 30 and June 2. The second round of the exam will be held between August 1 and August 4. Addressing questions over whether a student can redo their exam in case of technical difficulties, Deputy Head of the HNU Nguyen Kim Son said that the university has a question bank, where each computer would randomly choose a set of questions for each student. Deputy Director of the Department of Examination and Inspection Tran Van Nghia under the Ministry of Education and Training suggested the public wait for the exam results, providing that we could have the same results as several international testing organizations as they have applied multiple-choice questions and got exact results in assessing students’ abilities. According to the result by the end of June 1 at an examination center in Hanoi, 75.6% of 5,019 students got a score over 70 out of 140. The highest score was 124. In this first round of the university entrance, each student can apply for three majors offered by the university. Students can still reapply for the second round if they did not pass this first round. After three days of the entrance exam from May 30 to June 1, the university tested over 30,000 students.
