Vietnam Urges Action on Climate Change at UN Human Rights Council
Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, permanent representative of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN), World Trade Organization (WTO), and other international organizations in Geneva,called for international cooperation to address climate change impacts on sustainable livelihoods, state media reported.
Speaking at a working session of the 56th regular session of the Human Rights Council, Mr. Dung emphasized the need for support for vulnerable groups and highlighted the importance of sustainable livelihoods for developing countries.
He also urged the effective operation of the Loss and Damage Fund established at COP28 to provide financial resources for affected communities.
Besides, the Vietnamese diplomat proposed solutions, including issuing people-centered policies, empowering local communities through education and resources, promoting sustainable practices in agriculture and fisheries, and integrating climate adaptation into social protection programs to enhance resilience.
At a dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Climate Change, Ambassador Dung suggested clarifying the effectiveness of integrating sectoral linkages into climate policies and scaling up best practices to ensure the participation of vulnerable groups.
He also recommended solutions to improve coordination among stakeholders in promoting and protecting human rights in the context of climate change.
