A Vietnamese mission led by Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Thi Lien Huong attended the 20-year anniversary scientific symposium and partners dialogue promoting partnerships to advance the healthcare sector in Vietnam at Harvard Medical School (HMS), Boston, on October 10-12, local media said.

Addressing the HMS-held symposium entitled “Promoting Partnerships to Advance the Healthcare Sector in Vietnam” on October 10, Deputy Minister Huong lauded cooperation achievements between the Ministry of Health and HMS in the past 20 years.

She proposed both sides join hands in (i) guiding Law on Medical Examination and Treatment, including the establishment of the National Medical Council, (ii) enhancing the training quality at medical schools and promoting the ratification of joint training projects, (iii) improving the quality of hospital management and administration, (iv) stepping up IT application to the health sector, technology transfer, and scientific research, and (v) developing health policies.

Within the framework of the event, Ms. Huong signed a cooperation memorandum of understanding with HMS, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, extending and tailoring the one signed in 2017.

At thematic sessions of the three-day symposium, the Vietnamese mission made presentations about universal health coverage, the enhancement of the health system’s adaptability by bracing for epidemics and reducing climate change fallout, and health system design and healthcare service provision with people as the center, and others.
