Vietnam Vocational Schools Complain about Limited Recruitment

Many vocational training colleges and intermediate-level schools in Vietnam are complaining about limited sources for recruitments, due to the complicated developments of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and easy entrance into higher education units, state media reported. As COVID-19 delayed the national high school graduation exam, also a reference for university entrance, many universities have utilized more school record assessments to boost recruitment. Learners’ favor on higher education and easy entrance into universities have led to a problem that vocational schools are having more and more limited sources for recruitment. Besides, COVID-19 has economically hurt many families, hence many people cannot afford to continue education, but have to find jobs to earn money. According to a report from the Directorate of Vocational and Training, enrollment in vocational training schools and colleges nationwide in the first five months of the year decreased 70% y/y.
