Vietnam Young People to Join Wildlife Protection Volunteer Network

Education for Nature – Vietnam (ENV) has just announced that in the first months of 2014, the number of young people participating in its wildlife protection volunteer networks has increased dramatically. In February 2014 alone, ENV admitted over 4,000 members in 33 provinces and cities across the country. Of them, the largest number come from nine major provinces and cities of Haiphong, Hanoi, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Danang, Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh City. The information also shows a positive signal that young people today have begun to be interested in and aware of natural conservation, and are participating in the fight against wildlife crime. Volunteers directly inform the hotline of ENV about illegal raising and confinement, storage, display or trade of wildlife or wildlife products. According to statistics of ENV, as of October 2013, the wildlife protection department of ENV had received information on nearly 5,400 violations relating to wildlife through hotlines and other sources.
