WB Pledges Continued Support for Vietnam’s Agro Sector: Country Director

The World Bank (WB) has maintained a close cooperation with Vietnam and will continue supporting the Southeast Asian nation in agro-rural area-farmer sector via various programs, WB Vietnam Country Director Carolyn Turk said in an interview with the state-run newspaper Nong Nghiep Vietnam (Vietnam Agriculture).

Currently, the WB is building the Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for the 2022-2025 period based on priorities of the Vietnamese government and the WB. In the coming time, the WB will focus its support on green growth fitting the Vietnamese government’s targets on carbon emission reduction and carbon emission neutrality by 2050.

Besides, the WB will help boost green and low-emission agro production, especially in rice production and animal husbandry, aiming to ease greenhouse emissions. The WB will also provide plantlets and orchard varieties for better carbon absorption and storage capacity.

In addition, the WB will aid the Vietnamese government in carrying out policies and investment programs to promote the resilience and adaption of the agro-food sector amid climate change.

As a long-standing and reliable partner of Vietnam, the WB is committed to supporting the country’s agro sector to help the nation reach the high-income status in 2045.

The WB and its arm International Finance Corporation (IFC) will work with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) to hold high-level dialogues to share global experiences to Vietnam. (Nong Nghiep)
