WHO Pledges to Support Vietnam Gov’t in Antimicrobial Resistance Combat

The World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners vow to assist the Vietnamese government and people in fighting antimicrobial resistance (AMR), said WHO Representative in Vietnam Dr. Angela Pratt.

The WHO official made her statement at a conference on the implementation of the national strategy for antimicrobial resistance combat, held in Hanoi on November 20.

Dr. Angela Pratt lauded Vietnam’s approach and response to the World AMR Awareness Week 2023, which is celebrated on November 18-24 annually.

She commended that the national strategy is an important move to stagnate AMR, which is declared by the WHO as one of the top ten global public health threats facing humanity.

Recently, the Vietnamese Prime Minister has enacted the national strategy on AMR combat in 2023-2030, with a vision to 2045, following the 2013-2020 AMR prevention and control action plan used by the Ministry of Health in 2013. Vietnam is one of the first six countries in Asia-Pacific to develop and execute a national action plan on AMR fight. (Tuoi Tre, Suc Khoe Doi Song)
