Work Starts on $800M Japan-funded Wastewater Treatment Project in Hanoi

A wastewater treatment project costing $800 million has been kicked off construction in Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi, which is expected the biggest of its kind in the Southeast Asian country. The project, which 85% of its capital coming from Japan’s official development assistance (ODA), has capacity of 270,000 cubic meters of water per day, according to state media. Designed to treat wastewater collected from different parts of Hanoi, including the districts of Ba Dinh, Cau Giay, Thanh Xuan, Dong Da, Hoang Mai, Ha Dong, and Thanh Tri in an area of 4,874 hectares, Yen Xa Wastewater Treatment plant is expected to solve water pollution in Hanoi which is worsening now. Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung of the municipal People’s Committee said that the plant will help give vitality of a number of rivers which were poisoned to dead.
