World Bank Vows to Help Vietnam in Social Welfare

The World Bank (WB) commits to helping Vietnam deploy social welfare initiatives in the 2021-2030 period, said WB Acting Country Director Achim Fock, at a workshop in Hanoi on April 10 on the strategies for the social welfare system to meet the demand of rapid and sustainable development. Mr. Fock pointed out threats for Vietnam’s future, including impacts of climate changes, natural disasters, and vulnerable design of the social welfare system. Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Labor-Invalids and Social Affairs Doan Mau Diep listed Vietnam’s current problems, namely low rate of sustainable employment, high rate at 60% of the workforce in the agricultural sector, the average rate of back-to-poverty households at 5.1%, and only 30% of the workforce having social insurance. The current number of Vietnamese citizens receiving different types of support is at 23 million. (Dan Sinh, Bao Dan Sinh, VOVworld, QDND)
