World Vision Funds $1.5M for Vulnerable Children in Vietnam Northern Province

World Vision International in Vietnam is ready to fund $1.5 million to improve the care for children, especially the most vulnerable, in the northern province of Hoa Binh in the next three years, state media reported. In a recent ceremony held in Hoa Binh, local authorities and World Vision signed a partnership agreement for a child welfare improvement project that would be conducted in two phases. The first phase of the project was implemented in Yen Thuy district in the 2011-2015 period, with total investment of nearly $3 million, benefiting more than 31,000 people, including 6,000 children. The second phase will last from October 2015 until September 2018 and be carried out in four communes in Yen Thuy district, namely Lac Sy, Lac Luong, Lac Hung and Huu Loi. The project focuses on education, nutrition, child protection, capacity building, child sponsorship and livelihood development. According to World Vision, the most vulnerable children include orphans, abandoned and disabled children, those living in poor families and the dropouts. The international organization will cooperate with relevant provincial departments in supporting the children’s study, protecting them from abuse, exploitation and injuries. World Vision has invested more than $5 million in community development activities in Hoa Binh since 2008, helping to raise the living standard of 63,000 locals.
