WWF Helps Vietnam Protect Wild Elephants

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and Yok Don National Park in the Central Highlands province of Daklak on December 14 started a plan to urgently protect wild elephants in the park from extinction, Tuoi Tre newspaper reports. Running in the 2016-2020 period, the plan will organize a series of training courses for forest rangers at the park and develop a biodiversity monitoring system using camera traps funded by WWF Vietnam. It has set up the Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool around the park to collect data on animals there. The Central Highlands is currently home to 70 elephants, the biggest herd in Vietnam, which now has around 100 elephants. (http://english.thesaigontimes.vn/ Dec 15)
