Ngày 30 tháng 9 2012, tại Tòa nhà Keangnam Landmark 72 - Tòa nhà cao nhất
Việt Nam, sẽ diễn ra sự kiện thể thao chưa từng có tại Hà Nội: cuộc đua
chạy dọc tòa nhà Landmark72 Hanoi Vertical Run.

Sự kiện thể thao độc đáo này do tổ chức Đông Tây Hội Ngộ (EMW) phối hợp với
công ty Sporting Republic, đơn vị tổ chức chuyên nghiệp các cuộc chạy có
thành tích của Hồng Kông, tổ chức nhằm nâng cao nhận thức của cộng đồng về
sự hòa nhập xã hội của người khuyết tật cũng như gây quỹ cho chương trình
Thể thao Hòa nhập
do EMW đang thực hiện tại tỉnh Quảng Trị, một chương trình sử dụng thể thao
để giúp người khuyết tật tự tin hòa nhập và vươn lên trong cuộc sống.

Đây là một ý tưởng thể thao rất mới và lần đầu tiên có mặt tại Hà Nội,
người chạy sẽ phải chinh phục tòa tháp cao 350m với 1914 bậc thang – một
thử thách lớn, hứa hẹn thu hút sự quan tâm của hàng trăm người yêu thể thao
và thách thức tại Hà Nội. Những người về đích sớm nhất sẽ nhận được phần
thưởng bằng tiền mặt trị giá từ 300USD đến 1.500 USD.

Cuộc thi năm nay hứa hẹn sẽ quy tụ các vận động viên xuất sắc của thế giới
trong lĩnh vực chạy dọc tòa nhà tới Việt Nam để tranh tài. Trong đó có thể
đến cô Suzy Walsham đến từ Úc, người đã ba lần vô địch Cuộc chạy dọc tòa
nhà Empire State ở New York.

Đặc biệt, để cổ vũ tinh thần thể thao hòa nhập, cuộc đua này sẽ có sự tham
gia danh dự của chị Hồ Thị Huế, VĐV khuyết tật đến từ Quảng Trị, người đầu
tiên của thể thao khuyết tật Việt Nam giành HCB tại Asian Paragames. Chị Hồ
Thị Huế hiện là Chánh văn phòng của Hội thể thao khuyết tật Quảng Trị.

Các vận động viên sẽ xuất phát theo nhóm gồm 10-15 người, mỗi nhóm chạy
cách nhau 5 phút để tránh va vào nhau. Mỗi thí sinh sẽ được trang bị một
con chip điện tử theo dõi tiến độ và ghi lại thời gian chính xác của thí
sinh khi chạm đích vào cuối cuộc thi. Thông thường, các thí sinh sẽ mất
khoảng 20 phút để hoàn tất cuộc đua, nhưng những vận động viên xuất sắc thì
chỉ cần chưa tới 10 phút.

Thủ tục đăng ký tham gia trực tuyến bắt đầu từ ngày 4 tháng 6 năm 2012. Phí
tham gia là 15 USD/người. Toàn bộ doanh thu từ tiền đăng ký tham dự sẽ được
sử dụng để mua trang thiết bị và dụng cụ thể thao cho các câu lạc bộ thể
thao hòa nhập tại Quảng Trị.

Năm 2011, Sporting Republic cũng đã tổ chức cuộc thi chạy tháp Bitexco
Vertical Run lần đầu tiên tại Việt Nam, thu hút hơn 500 người tham dự.

On September 30, 2012, There will be a unique sporting event named Landmark
72 Hanoi Vertical Run at Keangnam Landmark 72 Tower - the tallest building
in Vietnam.

East Meets West (EMW) is working in cooperation with Sporting Republic to
organize this unique event in order to promote the social inclusion of
people with disabilities in Vietnam. Proceeds from the contest will benefit
EMW’s INSPIRE Sports program in Quang Tri Province, which assists people
with disabilities through inclusive sports and recreational activities.

This event is the first of its kind in Hanoi: Participants will face the
350-m building with 1914 steps – a great challenge, and is expected to
attract attention from hundreds of sports enthusiasts in Hanoi. The first
ones to reach the top will be awarded cash prizes, ranging from USD$300 to
$1,500.

This year’s competition is also expected to attract top vertical running
athletes from around the world. Notable among them is Suzy Walsham from
Sydney, Australia, who is the 3-time champion of the Empire State Building
Run Up competition in the United States.

In order to promote the idea of inclusive sports, this competition will
include the guest participation of HồThịHuế, an athlete with disabilities
from Quang Tri, who is the first Vietnamese person to win a silver medal at
the Asian Paragames. Huế currently serves as chairwoman of the Quang Tri
Paralympic Association.

Runners start off in groups of 10 to 15 at 5 minute intervals to avoid
bumping into each other. Each participant is equipped with an electronic
chip that tracks his or her progress up the stairs and at the end provides
the precise time the participant crossed the finish line. Most are likely
to take about 20 minutes to complete the race, although elite competitors
can finish in less than 10 minutes.

Online registrations have started with a participation fee of US$15.00 per
person. All the revenue from the registration fee will be used to purchase
sports equipment for inclusive sports clubs of in INSPIRE Sports program by
EMWi n Quang Tri Province.

In 2011, the first Bitexco Vertical Run, also organized by Sporting
Republic, attracted over 500 contestants.
