Disability Research and Capacity Development (DRD) was established on
December 3rd, 2005 under the sponsorship of the Ford Foundation. DRD
functions as a non-governmental and non-profit organization and is operated
by and for people with disabilities.

DRD works alongside the community to create support models that promote the
rights of people living with disabilities. Members of this community desire
equal opportunities and the chance to be encouraged to fully participate in
social activities, just as the other members of the society do.

DRD has run many projects and has helped over 3,500 people with
disabilities in Ho Chi Minh City and over 30 groups of people with
disabilities in Southern Vietnam. DRD has assisted with a variety of
activities such as internship recommendations, jobs, skill trainings, means
of transportation, scholarships, computer skills, self-advocacy skills,
information consultancy, peer counselling, workshops, and events aiming to
raise public awareness of disability issues. DRD is considered one of the
20 most successful nongovernmental organizations in Vietnam and is the
number one organization in the field of supporting people with disabilities
and promoting their social inclusion.

Kind Regards

The event lasted for 150 minutes. During this time, stories told by guests
gave students of the school a better insight into the difficulties that
challenged students with disabilities: infrastructure is inaccessible for
some types of disabilities, some subjects are not suitable for students
with disabilities, study materials specified for those with visual
impairments or hearing impairments are scarce, etc. [image: Readmore]

*8. Shares from students with disabilities who participate in the 55th
Mindset-Based Transformation course*

I am lucky to be given the opportunity to participate in the 55th
Mindset-Based Transformation course on December 14, 15, 16, 2017 by DRD.
For me, the course is really useful, I am very satisfied, and very happy.
I've never been to such a good program, and it suits me well. During the
three days’ training, I have different emotions - sadness, happiness,
sinfulness, and particularly, I have done one thing that I always thought
it was not necessary to do. That is, saying love to my mother. [image:

*1. The fundraising Musical Night Little Grace For Life in favor of the 3

program “An Half is For Me” came to give the Disability Research and
Capacity Development Center (DRD) the money raised after the musical night
"Little Grace For Life".

*Performance of Singer Tuyet Trinh*

This Musical Night was held on April 15, 2017 at Hcafe, 59 Tu Xuong
street, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City, and attracted 100 people. With the
participation of singers with disabilities and without disabilities, the
program created a common musical space for all.

Ms. Quynh Huong and her husband, MC Anh Luan said : "We love the values
that DRD has brought back to the community of people with disabilities.
These values are not material but they are developmental spiritual values.
this 3-wheel taxis service really addresses the critical traveling needs

*2. 1 buffet for change*

1-buffet-for-change – How will a buffet ticket contribute to make changes
to the community? Especially for students with disabilities?

According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and
Social Affairs in 2007, less than 0.1% of people with disabilities (PWDs)
graduated from colleges and universities. Besides barriers due to a lack of
access of the majority of university environments, economic difficulties
will create a important risk for students with disabilities, to have to
stop school. Many students have stepped into the doorway of the University,
but many have to give up their dreams because they cannot afford fee
tuition and living expenses when living away from home. [image: Readmore]
