The Crown Agents’ Conflict, Humanitarian and Security Operations Team (CHASE OT) working in and alongside the Department for International Development (DFID) is an established and highly respected team supporting the UK Government in global humanitarian disaster resilience, preparedness and response.  CHASE OT has recently commenced a new contract which offers a number of new and exciting opportunities.  Our Team has grown as a result.

 

We need a highly competent humanitarian professional who can respond 24/7 and react immediately to provide disaster management leadership and coordination, including the mobilisation of Operations Team staff and the establishment of an operations cell. The successful candidate will provide short, medium and long-term oversight and management of all aspects of humanitarian disaster response including, but not limited to, advice and operational delivery in the areas of International agency, including NGO partner, coordination, Disaster impact and needs assessment and Humanitarian programming (assessment of partner proposals) and recommendations, monitoring, tracking and all relationship management.

 

The position has a humanitarian advisory element, including the identifying, designing and advising on response (and exit) strategy, and monitoring implementation of projects and programmes in areas covered by the UK Government’s humanitarian agenda, as well as working with and supporting programme and administrative staff to ensure humanitarian and other programmes are well managed to achieve maximum impact.

 

The successful candidate will also manage a team of advisers engaged in delivering the Crown Agents Humanitarian Emergency Support Services package to DFID in accordance with the extant contract. This involves line management and professional development, as well as allocation of advisers  to tasks based on expertise and the needs of CHASE and DFID.

 

We want an individual with outstanding interpersonal skills, who can network effectively and work collaboratively with a range of partners and disciplines across the UK Government,  humanitarian agencies and at country level. You will be confident in providing advice, analysis, and preparing political and public briefings.

 

You will have extensive knowledge and experience of humanitarian response, and knowledge and extensive experience gained at a senior management level in developing countries and/or in fragile and conflict affected environments.

 

You will have experience of leading responses to major humanitarian emergencies, and will be expert in the assessment of needs following natural disasters and conflict.  You will advise on, design, implement & monitor response strategies.  You must be able to make sound decisions including in the area of safety and security. You must be able to demonstrate substantial safety and security knowledge and understanding.

 

You’ll bring well-developed team working skills, as well as critical thinking, sound judgement, creativity, flexibility and innovation to  team management. You will be personally resilient, and able to work in different environments, for long hours (when crises occur) and be available at short notice around the clock for response and team management/leadership roles. Strong programme management skills are required.

We need a highly competent humanitarian professional who can support DFID’s humanitarian policy agenda, as well support DFID’s humanitarian response as required and play a key supporting role in building resilience and helping reduce the risks and impacts of humanitarian disasters.

Key responsibilities of the Humanitarian Advisory Manager will include providing advisory support including, the identifying, designing and advising on response (and exit) strategy, and monitoring implementation of projects and programmes in areas covered by the UK Government’s humanitarian agenda, as well as working with and supporting programme and administrative staff to ensure humanitarian and other programmes are well managed to achieve maximum impact.

The Humanitarian Advisory manager will lead on drafting high quality briefings, and providing input into correspondence and parliamentary submissions as required, in addition to establishing close, strategic and constructive relationships with other bilateral and multilateral aid and humanitarian agencies, both in-country and at headquarters levels to facilitate strategic, principled, appropriate and timely humanitarian response.

The successful candidate will manage a team of advisers engaged in delivering the Crown Agents Humanitarian Emergency Support Services package to DFID in accordance with the extant contract.
