Dear Colleagues,

The United Nations Disaster Risk Management Team is pleased to share the Viet Nam Climate-Related Disaster Profile 2013 and OCHA 2014 El Niño, along with an accompanying letter from the Head of the Resident Coordinators Office.


The 2013 Viet Nam Climate-Related  Disaster Profile<http://www.un.org.vn/en/publications/un-wide-publications/cat_view/130-un-viet-nam-joint-publications/202-disaster-management-joint-un-publications.html> was compiled by the UN Disaster Risk Management Secretariat and reviewed by the UN DRM Team. It provides information on climate related disasters faced by Viet Nam in 2013 and lessons learned. According to the annual reviews of the Viet Nam National Committee for Search and Rescue and the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control, 2013 witnessed the highest number of recorded storm occurrences in the past 50 years.

The OCHA El Niño info-graphic<http://www.un.org.vn/en/publications/un-wide-publications/cat_view/130-un-viet-nam-joint-publications/202-disaster-management-joint-un-publications.html> is a result of increasing forecasts of the possibility of a severe El Niño phenomenon occurring from mid 2014 onwards across the Asia and Pacific region. This product has been created by OCHA to generate and maintain awareness of the evolving dimensions of the El Niño phenomenon.
