Gia lai team had a good meeting with provincial counterparts this afternoon with participation of Representatives from DPI, DOLISA, DOET, DOH, Women Union, DARD, Provincial Red Cross and Centre of Preventive medicine. Ms. Nga, the Deputy Director of DPI was delegated by PPC to facilitate the meeting with assessment team.
Many data are not available at provincial level at the time of the meeting. Provincial counterparts promised they would collect requested data as much as possible and provide them later during the field visit.
Please find the enclosed initial progress report prepared by the team members for your information and processing.

Subject: DMWG March Meeting Minutes_Action Plans for Joint Rapid Need Assessment and List of JATs
Dear DMWG members,
During the meeting yesterday afternoon we decided the following:
- 5 final provinces to be assessed: Ben Tre, Binh Thuan, Ninh Thuan, Kien Giang, with informal assessment to Kon Tum by Plan
- Start travel to province on Monday, and start assessment on early Tue. 3 days in the field on tue, wed, thur. Thursday night or Friday, the team should come back. Teams should send their brief reports to Yen on Friday 25 March, so she can send it to the network.
- Use the same assessment tools. Should not make any changes to the tools.
- There will be official letters sent by MARD/ PACCOM to the 5 selected provinces to facilitate the performance of the assessment teams. Hien will be the focal point to make this happens.
- Start a group email list for people going into the field. Lalit (UNICEF) is responsible for being the focal point and initiating communication.
- Team leaders will connect with their team members on assignments and details and vice versa. Team leader will be responsible for the final report of their assessment.
- 29 or 30 March: mtg to brief the minster and donors in the UN building. Final time and venue of the meeting will be confirmed later by Hien as she will be the focal person to work with MARD to arrage the meeting. MARD will send out official invitation letters to Government agencies and Donors and Yen will circulate the letters to the network.
Please see the attached files for more details about the meeting results. I am also sending herewith the list of joint rapid need assessment teams for your information and coordination. I do hope that our assessments will be successful.

Subject: A brief report on the DMWG's emergency meeting on March 14 and request for follow-up actions
Dear DMWG members,
Yesterday afternoon the DMWG met to update on the drought situation and salt intrusion in the Central Highlands, the South Central and the South Part of Vietnam. The participants also discussed on the joint actions to respond to the existing crisis. At the end of the meeting, we all agreed that the DMWG will:
1. Continue to update on the working areas of agencies. Please fill in the excel sheet attached and send back to me and the network for information sharing and coordination action asap.
2. Prepare for a joint assessment of drought crisis and salt intrusion in the Mekong Delta. Although, we have not yet decided to do the assessment, but we should be ready for this joint action. Please fill in the Joint Assessment Form attached and send it back to me as soon as you can. Once you/ your colleagues have filled out the form, it means that you are ready to be mobilized for the joint actions.
3. Collect more information related to damage and needs/ gaps. PACCOM will help to gather figures from the affected provinces.
4. Core members of the DMWG will attend the high level conference organized by MARD on Tuesday afternoon to (i) learn more about the crisis and what actions that the Vietnamese Government and Donor communities will support the affected communities and people to respond to the drought and salt intrusion, and (ii) also to share its joint actions/ opinions.
5. Meet again on this Friday afternoon (18/3) at NGO RC at 2:00-4:00 PM to decide whether we will carry out the joint assessment. If we decide “Yes”, we will discuss on detailed plans. A tentative agenda of this meeting will be sent to you soon.
