Course Description

This free certificate course is offered by the University of Washington Department of Global Health and the Treatment, Research, and Expert Education (TREE) program in Seattle, Washington, USA. Delivered in over 20 other countries, this is the third time this course will be offered in Vietnam and the first time in HCMC. Those who pass this rigorous course will earn a printed certificate from the University of Washington. The class provides in-depth training in the diagnosis and clinical management of HIV as practiced around the world. Through a web-based curriculum and weekly classroom seminars, students participate in more than 70 cases involving HIV & sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The web-based homework focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases using US-based guidelines. The weekly case-based seminars address differences in the diagnosis and treatment of HIV and STIs in different settings. The seminars feature joint discussants who can provide first-hand perspectives on treating HIV and STIs in the United States versus the developing world. Distant students from resource-limited regions participate both synchronously and asynchronously from countries in the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
