Dear INGO Colleagues,
I would like to announce that Dr Greg Fox, Country Director for Woolcock
Institute of Medical Research Vietnam, has been appointed as an
alternate INGO representative to the Country Coordinating Mechanism
(CCM) of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM)
at the request of CCM. The decision was made by the VUFO-NGO Resource
Centre's Steering Committee last week, based on our call for nominations
in September this year. As we were looking for one candidate; and we
received one nomination, which meets the criteria, the Steering
Committee has approved Greg's appointment unanimously.
Please join me in congratulating Greg on this appointment. For those of
you who have not met him, Dr Greg Fox has been the Country Director for
the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research Vietnam since 2009. The
Woolcock Institute, a member of the VUFO-NGO Resource Centre, is a
leading research institute of the University of Sydney, Australia.
Greg's main project has been implementing a large national
randomised-controlled trial of active case finding for tuberculosis
among close contacts of patients, in partnership with the Vietnam
National Tuberculosis Program. This study is in its second year, and has
already recruited over 8,000 participants in 75 districts throughout
Vietnam. The Woolcock Institute also delivers training in operational
research into lung disease for Vietnamese health-care workers and
academics, in partnership with the American Thoracic Society's MECOR
program. Dr Fox is a Respiratory Physician trained in Australia, with a
background in clinical medicine and public health.
As a reminder, an alternate INGO representative will serve in the
absence of Mr Matthew Tiedemann, Country Director for Pact in Vietnam,
who was appointed in March 2011. INGO representatives to the CCM
represent all INGOs in Vietnam during discussions on AIDS, Tuberculosis
and Malaria. The CCM meets up to four times a year to discuss and review
GFATM proposal development and implementation. There are also sub
committees for each of the three diseases.
Warm regards!
Marko
