[ingodirectors] ANNOUNCEMENT: INGO Representative to CCM of GFATM

Dear INGO colleagues and friends:

It is  my pleasure to announce that Peter Newsum, Country Director for CARE
International in Vietnam, has been appointed as a new INGO representative
to the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) of the Global Fund to Fight
AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM). Please join me in congratulating
Peter on this appointment.

On behalf of my team, I wish Peter a successful tenure in this role. Most
of you know him very well, but for those colleagues who have not met him
yet -- Peter Newsum has been the Country Director for CARE International in
Vietnam since October 2007. CARE has been involved in a range of HIV
projects in Vietnam since it started activities in 1989. CARE is also
active in a range of other programmatic sectors, including sexual and
reproductive health; rural development; water and sanitation; business
development and micro finance; climate change adaptation; disaster risk
reduction; and emergency response. CARE focuses its activities primarily on
women and girls amongst the most vulnerable population groups, including
ethnic minorities and socially marginalized groups.

I would also like to use this opportunity to thank Matthew Tiedemann, a
former Country Director at Pact, who has been representing INGOs at
CCM-GFATM since March 2011. Following his departure and our subsequent call
for nominations for a new representative -- we have received only one
nomination. Given that we only had one candidate it has been decided to
appoint a new representative to CCM-GFATM without elections.

As a reminder, the INGO representatives to CCM-GFATM represents all INGOs
in Vietnam during discussions on AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The CCM
meets several times a year to discuss and review GFATM proposal development
and implementation. There are also sub committees for each of the three
diseases.
