Dear INGO colleagues:
Following our recent call for nominations, only one candidate has been
nominated for a new INGO representative at the Vietnam Development
Partnership Forum (VDPF). The nominee accepted his candidacy and the
Steering Committee of the VUFO-NGO Resource Centre approved his
appointment without elections. Please join me in extending my sincere
congratulations to the new INGO Representative at VDPF:
Dr. Michael R. DiGregorio, the Asia Foundation’s Vietnam Country Representative
Michael has served as a development professional in Vietnam for 23
years. During that time, he has worked as a researcher, program
manager, and documentary filmmaker with a variety of philanthropic,
academic, business, and international development organisations.
Before joining the Asia Foundation in 2014, he served as a senior
consultant on urban climate change resilience within the Rockefeller
Foundation’s Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network. Prior to
that, Michael served for eight years within the Ford Foundation’s
Hanoi office developing and managing $34 million in grants in
education, media, arts, and culture. He earned a PhD in Urban Planning
from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2001 with a
dissertation on the cultural economy of industrialising craft villages
in the Red River Delta. His MA in Urban and Regional Planning from the
University of Hawaii was published in 1994 as ‘Urban Harvest:
Recycling as a Peasant Industry in Northern Vietnam’. Michael also
holds an MA in Development Economics from Ohio University. He is an
affiliate faculty member of the University of Hawaii, where he
continues to advise doctoral students in Urban Planning.
Michael is joining an experienced team of the following three INGO
representatives, who are representing the INGO community in Vietnam at
VDPF already:
Ms. Dung Le Kim, Associate Country Director, Oxfam in Vietnam
Ms. Thao Hoang Phuong, Country Director, ActionAid International in Vietnam
Ms. Hang Thi Bich Nguyen, Country Representative, Marie Stopes International
I feel privileged to work with these dedicated and experienced
colleagues; and we are working hard on preparations for the upcoming
VDPF 2015, which will take place on the 7th of December in Hanoi.
Warm regards,
Marko
