Following our recent call for nominations, we received nominations for
two candidates who meet the criteria for the VUFO-NGO Resource
Centre's Steering Committee. Kindly note that your organisation is
eligible to give one vote. Please select one of the nominees below and

Ms. Sharon Kane, Country Director, Plan International Vietnam
Mr. Michael R. DiGregorio, Country Representative, the Asia Foundation Vietnam
For those of you who may have not met Sharon or Mike, here are their
summarised professional biographies:

Sharon Kane has been the Country Director of the child rights
organisation, Plan International Vietnam since July 2016. Sharon holds
Post Graduate degrees in Health Promotion, Evaluation, and a Masters
of Public Health. She has more than 15 years of experience working in
both the development and humanitarian setting. Starting in 2001,
Sharon spent 8 years in Afghanistan and Pakistan working directly on
maternal, child health and nutrition programs and child protection
programs. In 2009, she joined the American Red Cross, moved to
Thailand and led the Final Evaluation of the 2005 Tsunami Response.
This role led to Sharon joining the Australian Red Cross Emergency
Response team and she was deployed to assist in a number of
humanitarian emergencies that occurred in places such as Haiti, Libya,
and Pakistan. In 2012, Sharon took on a senior leadership role in
Laos, as Director of Program Quality for World Vision. During this
time, Sharon served as a Committee Member on the INGO Network for
Laos. As Country Director for Plan International Vietnam, Sharon is
excited to lead the Plan team in the promotion of advancing Children’s
Rights and Equality for Girls.

Dr. Michael R. DiGregorio, the Asia Foundation’s Vietnam Country
Representative, has served as a development professional in Vietnam
for 23 years. During that time, he has worked as a researcher, program
manager, and documentary filmmaker with a variety of philanthropic,
academic, business, and international development organisations.
Before joining the Asia Foundation in 2014, he served as a senior
consultant on urban climate change resilience within the Rockefeller
Foundation’s Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network. Prior to
that, Michael served for eight years within the Ford Foundation’s
Hanoi office developing and managing $34 million in grants in
education, media, arts, and culture. He earned a PhD in Urban Planning
from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2001 with a
dissertation on the cultural economy of industrialising craft villages
in the Red River Delta. His MA in Urban and Regional Planning from the
University of Hawaii was published in 1994 as ‘Urban Harvest:
Recycling as a Peasant Industry in Northern Vietnam’. Michael also
holds an MA in Development Economics from Ohio University. He is an
affiliate faculty member of the University of Hawaii, where he
continues to advise doctoral students in Urban Planning.
