Dear INGO directors:

Please indicate your interest to the below event by close-of-business
Monday, February 10. Apologies for cross-posting. Those of you who
have already received the email and confirmed your interest -- please
ignore this email.

Save the Children is planning to organise a two day outbreak
preparedness planning exercise. Please find the agenda and specific
objectives for READY attached. They are hoping to bring together as
many agencies as possible.

READY’s Outbreak Preparedness Planning:

This workshop represents the first of its kind in READY’s Outbreak
Preparedness Planning Approach (attached) bringing together
operational agencies in regions and countries in outbreak response. In
light of the recent and quickly evolving 2019-nCoV outbreak, READY is
prioritising country-level preparedness workshops to help prepare
organisations to respond quicker and more efficiently.

These workshops were initially designed to convene NGOs with
facilitated discussions about readiness for response to two major
modes of transmission, and to incorporate findings, recommendations,
and tools into their own emergency preparedness systems.

For the nCOV exercise in Vietnam, special consideration will be placed
on NGO preparedness around the following pillars, in line with the
recent WHO/GHC response plan:

- Staff safeguarding
- Program and business continuity across programmatic sectors
- Risk communication and community engagement

Please inform Ms. Sharon Hauser, Director of Program Development,
Quality and Advocacy at Save the Children (copied here) if you have
any questions about the training or any of the sessions. Given the
urgency in getting government approvals for READY staff, Save the
Children is asking that you confirm your organization’s attendance by
emailing Ms. Hoa at <Chuthanh.Hoa at savethechildren.org> no later than
by CoB Monday, 10 February. They will share a confirmation email with
some additional logistics and planning details with confirmed
attendees during this week.

About READY:

READY originated from recent prominent major disease outbreaks and the
critical gaps that were revealed within the global humanitarian
community’s response capacities and approaches. Many literature
reviews, including READY’s, have shown there are numerous challenges
and obstacles in coordinating different actors in outbreaks to
effectively ensure a timely and effective response. Complex
operational platforms are also additional barriers for NGOs to scale
up their responses in a coordinated manner and integrate quality
programming across sectors. While there has been some progress in
improving these coordination and operational capacities in some more
recent outbreaks, many gaps and challenges remain. With your help,
the READY Initiative plans to facilitate a commitment across agencies
to collectively complement other ongoing efforts/initiatives to
address and improve these intrinsic operational barriers currently
facing the global outbreak humanitarian community.

Kind regards,

Marko
