Development Manager

EMW Office in Ho Chi Minh City

Terms of Reference

 

 

 

East Meets West Foundation (EMW) is one of the largest development
non-government organizations in Vietnam with a brand name that is widely
recognized among donors and policy makers in Vietnam for its excellent
reputation in program implementation, integrity and innovation.

 

We are seeking qualified candidate to fill the position of the Development
Manager in EMW's office in Ho Chi Minh City.  The Development Manager will
supervise two existing staff, and will report directly to the Country
Director for Vietnam.

 

Responsibilities:

1)      Fundraising and Donor Solicitation

a)      Successfully attain funding from corporations for EMW programs.

b)      Reach annual fundraising goal.

c)      Build and maintain relationships with corporate donors and potential
donors.

d)      Identify and develop relationship with new corporations in Vietnam
to make financial contributions to EMW.

e)      Identify individuals who can make financial contributions to EMW. 

f)        Perform all necessary tasks to raise funds, including: i) writing
letters, ii) making phone calls, iii) meeting prospective donors, iv)
writing grant proposals, v) giving presentations, vi) leading trips
throughout Vietnam, and vii) arranging events.

g)      Keep careful records using EMW systems of all donor contacts and
conversations.

h)      Coordinate with EMW communications staff in Oakland and Hanoi to
deliver donor events, press releases, media activities and public relations.

i)        Keep all major donors informed about EMW activities, coordinating
closely with other fundraisers in Vietnam and in the US. 

j)        If and when EMW launches a capital or major donor campaign,
fundraiser will be expected to fully assist with that project.

 

2)      Coordinate closely with EMW staff responsible for new program
development as required.

To develop program proposal under guidance of the Program Development
Director in Hanoi for major proposals, including writing proposals, working
with concerned program managers in EMW, developing budgets, and complying
with donors' requirements.

 

3)      Manage HCMC office

a)      Supervise office manager and development assistant/program officer,
including conducting annual performance reviews.

b)      Carefully follow all EMW procedures with respect to personnel,
office management, bookkeeping, accounting and budgeting.

c)      Manage HCMC office budget, ensuring that allowed expenses are not
exceeded.

d)      Represent EMW at official functions and public events, including as
public speaker.

Qualifications:

 

The candidate will possess the following qualifications:

 

*	College education, prefer advanced degree in related field.
*	At least three years of experience in fundraising and/or program
development.
*	Track record in fundraising, preferably in Vietnam as well as
elsewhere.
*	Fluency in speaking and writing English. Vietnamese competency is
desirable.
*	Dynamic, persistent, and creative.

 

Salaries and benefits will be determined based on experience and
qualifications.

East Meets West Foundation - Vietnam (EMW) in collaboration with  The
Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering of the University of
North Carolina (UNC) Gillings School of Global Public Health, is conducting
an independent post-implementation assessment of this non-governmental
organization's (NGO) community piped drinking water and sanitation systems
projects in Quang Nam province with the aim to assessing how effective the
community piped water system has been in improving water quality and health
among families in these project villages in the time since implementation.  

 

We are seeking 02 Laboratory Technicians (working in HCMC) and 4 Field
Survey Staff (Working in Da Nang) to join our dynamic and professional teams
to our activities. The employment duration will last 6 months and expect to
extend its duration as longer as the program activities can.

 

1.      Laboratory Technician: 2 positions based in HCMC

 

Duties:

*	Receive samples via proper chain of custody and accurately record.
*	Process samples according to proper laboratory procedures.
*	Manage the daily responsibilities of the lab and maintain a clean
lab environment. 
*	Record results from daily lab analyses. Report these results to
Project Coordinator/Manager. 
*	Assist with data entry of laboratory results.
*	Report the materials needed in the lab to the Project Manager or
Project Coordinator.     
*	Support the other teammates in accomplishing tasks and maintaining
lab operations.
*	Notify the Project Management of any problems that arise in the lab.
*	Record the inventory of material in the lab in every week. 
*	Clean the lab as part of the regular schedule. 
*	Record any problems or if any of the equipment or materials are
broken.
*	Follow accurate methods for lab procedures.
*	Attend all project meetings and trainings.  
*	Represent the project in a professional and courteous manner to all
people.
*	Comply with the guidelines of the contract regarding days off,
holidays, sick leave, etc.

Requirements:

*	Knowledge of basic principles of laboratory analysis such as record
keeping, sample handling and processing
*	Additional knowledge of microbiological techniques such as aseptic
technique and bacteriology (IDEXX colilert), and water sample analysis would
be a plus
*	Special consideration given to candidates that have a bachelor's
degree or higher 
*	Fluent in English

 

 

2.      Field Survey Staff: 4 positions based in Da Nang

 

Duties:

*	Manage and prepare well for the trip to field and check list of
items such as: sample bottles/sample bags, questionnaires, GPS, battery,
clip board, sticker, pencils, eraser, plastic bag etc., before leaving the
office. 
*	Logistical skills in finding the location for interview, community
authority etc. 
*	Capable of recruiting participants to join our research project. 
*	Able to perform good interviews with clear and understandable
results.   
*	Produce an accurate daily record that includes specific information
on household interviews and sample collection that has been done to project
manager or project coordinator. 
*	Record the water sample chain of custody to hand over to laboratory
staff. 
*	Ability to address and solve all kinds of problems during working
mission. 
*	Organization of questionnaires, samples, etc. to pass on at the end
of each day.
*	Able to work in a demanding environment under supervision, and
within a team of people. 
*	Inform the project manager/coordinator of any problems that arise as
soon as possible. 
*	Inform the project manager/coordinator of necessary materials for
field work at least one week in advance.
*	Assist in data entry of interviews.

 

Requirements:

*	Good interpersonal communications skills, problem solving skills and
ability to make decisions under pre-determined guidelines. 
*	Additional skills in census taking and/or interviewing would be a
plus. 
*	Fluent in Vietnamese. 
*	Driver's license and ability to travel with overnight stays
possible.
*	Special consideration given to candidates that have a BA degree, are
fluent in English, and have experience in social surveys.

 

Salaries and benefits will be determined based on experience and
