Join Habitat for Humanity in Vietnam to build houses and hope

In Dong Xa fishing village, about an hour’s drive outside of Hanoi, fishing
families are hard-pressed to keep up their livelihood because of dwindling
fish stocks. Many of them live on small, run-down, wooden boats without
clean water, proper sanitation and electricity. This impoverished way of
life affects the health and future of their children, who are often unable
to attend school. Other villagers who farm the nearby fields have been
unable to afford houses of their own.

In cooperation with local partners, Habitat for Humanity in Vietnam is
building houses and upgrading community facilities of Dong Xa village. With
skilled assistance from Habitat, community members are making concrete
blocks and laying foundations for 32 houses.

About the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project

Each year, former United States President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter,
his wife, join Habitat for Humanity International for one week to build
houses and international awareness of the need for decent shelter for
everyone. This year their participation will highlight housing needs in the
Mekong countries: Thailand, Vietnam, China, Cambodia and Laos. In Vietnam,
Dong Xa village will be the site.

Join us November 15-20!

Help Dong Xa village build 30 houses in one week*

During the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project: The Mekong Build 2009,
Habitat for Humanity Vietnam will build 30 houses. You are invited to join
the project team of participating families and volunteers from around the
world. No construction experience is necessary. Volunteers can participate
in the event for one to five days without any assistance in lodging.
Volunteers will work on a variety of tasks in:

· construction under skilled supervisors

· on-site translators/interpreters

· logistics assistance
